The Philosophy Behind This Book

My approach to building a home comes from experience—not from believing there’s one right way to design a beautiful house.

I’ve lost a home to a fire, renovated an outdated home, rebuilt, and eventually built our dream home from the ground up. Each experience taught me something different, but together they changed the way I think about home.

I learned that a beautiful home isn’t about following trends or choosing the “right” finishes. It’s about understanding how you want to live, what your family needs, and what genuinely feels like you.

I also learned that building doesn’t have to be an overwhelming process. With a clear vision, thoughtful preparation, and a way to guide your decisions, it can actually be something you enjoy.

That’s why I created this book.

I wanted to give people the resource I wished I’d had—a guide that doesn’t tell you what to choose, but teaches you how to choose.

The process starts by defining the life you want your home to support. From there, you’ll discover your style, establish your priorities, create a cohesive vision, and use that foundation to confidently make one decision at a time.

Because the goal isn’t simply a beautiful house.

It’s a beautiful, cohesive home that works for your family, feels like you, and brings you joy—both while you’re building it and long after you move in.
